Research agent - Thin Film Deposition:Job description:Job location: Swansea School:School of Aerospace, Civil, Electrical, General and Mechanical Engineering Closing Date:08-06-2022 income: £35,326 to £40,927 per annum Job location: This position will be located at the Centre for Solar Energy Research, OpTIC, N. Wales until Jan 2023, then at Bay Campus, Swansea University until Mar 31st, 2023. Contract: Fixed term until 31/3/2023 SPARC II is a European Regional Development fund supported project which includes partners at Swansea, Aberystwyth and Bangor Universities. The purpose of this research funding is to build research capacity in solar photovoltaic research, to ensure that the SPARC II team can attract substantial competitive research funding that will enable new research partnerships for ground-breaking research and lead to effective technology transfer in the future. SPARC II requires a Research agent who has practice of vapour phase thin film deposition and some good knowledge of growth kinetics and materials characterisation. The function includes assisting with the installation phase of the MOCVD equipment in the newly created laboratory within the CISM building, Bay Campus, Swansea. In parallel, the research agent will help to develop new proposals and how they may be delivered by the new chalcogenide and oxide MOCVD equipment. Whilst the new MOCVD tool is under procurement and the laboratory within the CISM building is finished, the function will require MOCVD experiments on the existing CSER MOCVD reactors at the St. Asaph laboratory, N. Wales. This will include investigating chalcogenides, II-VI & III-VI oxides and metal chalcogenides using CSER's in-line MOCVD reactor. this function requires excellent teamworking expertise. The post holder will report to the SPARC II Project Manager to undertake SPARC II work package research closely connected with the materials to be produced with the MOCVD tool. The post holder will shadow the manufacturers installation technicians during the commissioning phase. Once the new tool is commissioned the function would then be located on the Bay Campus. The prosperous applicant will work with the equipment manufacturers to become fully proficient in its operation. Support the planning and organisation of the CSER lab (N. Wales) move to the CISM building (Bay Campus). The post holder will assess background literature of proposed materials for MOCVD and support the development of collaborative research proposals. They will be the primary operator of the thin film MOCVD equipment and will design and superviseing equipment maintenance schedule. They will characterise thin film materials and present results at internal and external meetings and conferences. The candidate should hold a PhD in Chemistry or Physics or related discipline. Have a track record of vapour phase thin film growth and characterisation. They should provide evidence of active engagement, personal function, and contribution to writing and publishing research papers, particularly for refereed journals.
