This full-time post is available from 1 September 2022 on a fixed term basis until 31 August 2026.
The post
The College wishes to recruit an outstanding and highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow to participate in the ?Collaboration in Practice' team of the NERC funded project ?Renewing biodiversity through a people-in-nature approach (RENEW)?. The wider RENEW partnership seeks to develop solutions to one of the major environmental challenges for humankind, the renewal of biodiversity. It is funded by NERC and involves 33 project partners. The programme includes academics and partners across environmental sciences, data science, environmental intelligence, social sciences, humanities, and business. The post entails reflexively studying the RENEW research programme as it develops, helping RENEW to see itself and reflect on its processes across the seven project themes. You will explore and document ?what's working' as the interdisciplinary teams across the project lgain to collaborate with each other, as well as with our third sector, policy and business partners.
The prosperous applicant will work closely with the X3 Theme leads Dr. Angela Cassidy and Prof. Susan Molyneux Hodgson in the Collaboration in Practice team, co-ordinating evidence synthesis and conducting their own ethnographic investigations of collaborative biodiversity research practices, within and beyond RENEW. It will be located in the Department of Sociology, Philosophy and Anthropology, with affiliations to Egenis, the Centre for the Study of Life Sciences, and CRPR, the Centre for Rural Policy Research.
About you
candidates will possess a significant PhD or an equivalent qualification/practice in a related field of study and be able to demonstrate sufficient expertise in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes. You will be a nationally recognised scholar in a significant research field, such as science and technology studies (STS); sociology; science communication; environmental social science; human geography; or history of science, technology and medicine.
The prosperous applicant will be able to develop research objectives, projects and proposals; identify sources of research funding and contribute to the process of securing funds and make presentations at conferences and other events. You will possess sufficient specialist expertise to develop collaborative research projects, and outputs; work with stakeholder and community partners; and communicate complex information clearly across specialisms and with wider publics.
