We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and adaptable Technician Demonstrator in Aeronautical/Mechanical Engineering to support the development and delivery of the curriculum across the subject area. In addition to the aeronautical and mechanical engineering areas in the faculty, the candidate is expected to support the wider curriculum in Engineering, which covers a range of undergraduate courses in Aeronautical and Mechanical, Automotive, Civil, Electrical and Electronic, Renewable and Industrial engineering, plus postgraduate courses and Unmanned Aircraft System Technology (UAST). Due to the cross-disciplinary nature of the faculty the candidate would be expected to support requests from across the faculty, where appropriate (e.g. Product Design and the Built Environment).
The teaching and research activity in Engineering involves a significant element of laboratory/workshop activities. The post involves providing specialist expertise linked to technical and practical support contributing to the practical education of students through instruction and demonstration. The post holder will also develop links with industry and encourage opportunities for students to work on live projects and become part of a dynamic industry.
The prosperous candidate will provide demonstrations of the use of equipment to significant users. This will involve providing general support across the subject provision, especially techniques and equipment related to Aeronautical/mechanical Engineering. This includes installing and maintaining equipment.
candidates should hold at least a HNC level technical qualification or a BSc or equivalent or significant work practice. Proven communication and organisational skills are vital to the function, and to be able and willing to engage collaboratively with the management of practical spaces and ensuring a robust culture of health and safety to help enhance the student practice across our courses.
The function is varied and challenging, so you will need to be a highly-motivated individual who is able to work flexibly and to tight deadlines, both independently and as part of a team.
The capability to speak Welsh is desirable, but not essential.
