Due to the continuing success of the Hartree Centre at STFC (part of UK Research and Innovation) We are pursuing a Computational Scientist to work on groundbreaking projects across high performance computing, big analytics and AI. The prosperous candidate will be working with the latest architectures and technologies to meet the needs of UK industry. You will join a well-established and expanding team of extraordinary Computational Scientists and High-Performance Software Engineers within our Centre, with an expanding IBM research team at STFC. You will work with business development personnel to develop collaborations with industrial partners and public agencies. We work closely with industrial clients on specific projects, and you will also contribute to these projects as needed. Some of the work will be commercial in confidence and subject to IPR rules around public disclosure. The function may involve working closely with teams within commercial companies. You will build computational models of components, products and processes whilst helping commercial partners understand how to model uncertainties using and adopting complex models, especially multilevel, multi-scale stochastic and hybrid ones. You will work with Business Development on project scoping. In particular, identifying appropriate objectives to address client challenges, and practiccapability assessment of technologies required to meet objectives and support our business development managers with technical pre-sales. To succeed in this function, you will have: » Degree or equivalent practice in applied mathematics, computing, or engineering subject area with a strong mathematics component (S&I) » A PhD or equivalent professional practice at least two areas with relevance to extreme scale computing, mathematics, Computational Science and engineering (S&I) [Required for band E] » practice with a compiled language such as C/C++ or Fortran (S&I) » practice using modelling and simulation (stochastic (MCMC, SMC, MLMC) and hybrid methods) (S&I) » expertise of HPC and parallel software development (S&I) » Able to work with a range of clients (I) » Strong leadership abilities expertise with previous practice and capability to lead, motivate and develop others (S&I) [Required to qualify for band E].
