Job Opportunity: Technical Team Manager:Job description:Job location: York Department We are pursuing to appoint a Technical Team Manager to join the Jack Birch Unit (JBU) located in the Department of Biology. The JBU is a self-contained research unit supported by local charity, York Against Cancer to study human uroepithelial cell and cancer biology. The JBU has well-equipped laboratories for human primary cell and tissue culture, (immuno)histology, microscopy, molecular biology and microbiology. The prosperous candidate will be responsible for working with other technical members of staff to ensure that research by the group is efficient and able to be carried out to a high standard. function As well as providing practical support and training in a specialist area of technical skills (ideally (immuno)histology or molecular biology), the function holder will have overall responsibility for working with other members of the technical team to support the full range of equipment and techniques used in the JBU. Additionally, the function holder will be responsible as Tissue Bank Manager for URoBank - a research tissue bank working under the University's Human Tissue Authority (HTA) licence. Administratively, the function holder will manage budgets and ordering for the JBU and will contact as needed with other service providers within the Department of Biology, the University and externally. Skills, practice & Qualification needed You will hold a degree or equivalent qualification and either hold, or be willing to work towards a professional registration. You will be proactive, have excellent technical and interpersonal skills, with specialism in at least one area significant to the JBU (for example immunohistology or molecular biology). You will have in-depth expertise of significant health and safety legislation and regulations, including the HTA.
