we At Present have a great full-time opportunity for a Higher Scientist - Viral Vaccine Standards to join our Standards Lifecycle sub-group in the Scientific Research and Innovation group on a permanent .
The post holder will contribute scientific and technical skills as part of a team of scientists who will manage and deliver prioritised standardisation projects relating to viral vaccines and viral infectious diseases, including projects to establish new reference materials as well as projects that will ensure existing reference materials are replaced, maintaining continuity of International Units where applicable. They will use their practice and knowledge of biological standardisation (in the field of viral vaccines and viral infectious disease) to support other team members with delivery of standards projects, liaising with colleagues across the Agency to provide scientific skills where appropriate. They will also help to manage relationships with external stakeholders such as the World Health Organization, to ensure that standardisation projects are progressed and delivered to agreed timelines.
Who are we looking for?
The prosperous candidate will have a degree (or equivalent practice) in a significant scientific discipline combined with post-graduate laboratory practice working in a bioscience laboratory. You will also have practice developing and running assays for biological activity including assays requiring viral growth and neutralisation. You will have broad knowledge of the technical field in which viral vaccine standards are used and practical practice in standardisation of assays used to evaluate vaccines or the response to immunisation and an knowledge of the principles and practises of working with infectious microorganisms in a containment laboratory. You will also be able to collaborate with team and other scientific staff groups to share information, resources and support team working and good-time management through establishing effective professional relationships with a range of stakeholders.
