The Heart and Lung Research Institute (HLRI) is a new state of the art research facility on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, operational since April 2022. The new building contains laboratories, office space and on the ground floor a Clinical Research Facility (CRF) besides seminar and conference rooms. The building will house approximately 400 staff from the Departments of Medicine, and Public Health and Primary Care, and the Royal Papworth Hospital.
Reporting directly to the HLRI Director, and working alongside the Laboratory and Facilities Manager, the function holder will take responsibility for key aspects of the day to day operation of the Laboratory and Facilities function for the Department of Medicine within the HLRI, including direct supervision of technicians and senior technicians. The prosperous candidate will have substantial significant practice of working within a laboratory environment, expertise of Health and Safety best practice, and will be able to demonstrate expertise of building services along with proactive problem-solving expertise.
As part of the function, the post holder will be required to work flexibly, sometimes out of hours if needed, in order to respond to emergencies eg chemical or biological spillages or freezer breakdowns.
