The function The Open University Law School is looking to appoint a lecturer to contribute to the development of its award-winning Open Justice Centre and manage the virtual Open Justice Law Clinic. The clinic advises on employment, family, housing, contract, wills and probate, environmental and consumer law issues. We are expanding the scope of the Clinic with the addition of a Business Law Clinic starting this October. The clinic provides opportunities for up to 90 students as part of an optional module on our law degree. Candidates should be a legal practitioner and have expertise and skills in the delivery of clinical legal education. The post offers the prosperous candidate the opportunity to lead and develop the Clinic. For more information on the Open Justice Centre visit our website. Skills and practice » An English undergraduate law degree or equivalent. » A Postgraduate qualification or equivalent. » A professional qualification for the practice of law with an capability to take out a practising certificate or Certificate of Good Standing (paid for by the University) to supervise students. » A legal practitioner with substantial PQE in legal practice including the supervision of developing lawyers in the conduct of legal cases. » Current working expertise of the law and procedure in one area of law significant to the Clinic (family, employment, housing, commercial/contract, wills and probate or consumer law) » practice of teaching clinical legal education and supervising students in a law clinic » Clear evidence of the capability to structure and write complex law teaching materials and assessment in English for online asynchronous delivery in an accurate, accessible and engaging manner appropriate for students with a wide variety of prior learning practices, or practice of structuring and writing guidance for students engaged in clinic legal education. » Demonstrable potential and availability to produce high quality legal research or scholarship or engage in expertise Exchange activity.
