Supported by Airbus and EPSRC, this studentship will provide a bursary of up to £20,000 p.a. (tax free) plus fees* for up to 4 years.
Collaborative robotics, where humans and robots share the same work spaces, is an exciting and emerging technology pushing the boundaries of what was previously possible in the application of industrial robotics. Of particular interest is knowledge how safety can be enhanced by knowledge the relationship between human movement and robot kinematics so that tasks and operations can be shared efficiently between the human operator and the robot.
In support of this Cranfield University and Airbus have formed an exciting collaboration, supported by the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, to investigate Human Robot Collaboration in Aerospace Manufacturing and a fully funded PhD studentship has been made available. The PhD student will be located within the Airbus facility in Broughton but will be expected to work closely with engineers at and across other company sites and maintain close links with the academic community at Cranfield.
The prosperous candidate will be supervised by Professor Phil Webb who is a leading authority in the area but they will also be expected to work closely with other groups at Cranfield. In addition, an industrial manager will be assigned from within Airbus.
Entry General Requirements:
candidates should have a first or upper second-class UK honours degree or equivalent in a related discipline, such as mechanical/aerospace engineering, manufacturing/industrial engineering, or other significant engineering disciplines. Candidates with a background in Human Factors may also be considered.
