Reducing carbon emissions from civil aviation is possible by switching aircraft to liquid hydrogen fuel. While LH2 fuel promises essentially zero green-house gas emissions at the point of use but poses considerable challenges, as an example, in the design of fuel circuits. The low temperature of the fuel also offers opportunities that are not available with hydrocarbon-located fuels. You will be responsible for
» Conducting independent research into numerical methods for the computation of flows in cryogenic turbomachines such as cryogenic fuel pumps
» Conducting independent research into thermodynamic cycles for hydrogen aviation engines

» Assist in the supervision of DPhil candidates enrolled on projects aligned with your research
» Assist the group in coordinating publication activities such as guest editing of journals to increase the impact of the research.
You should possess a DPhil in turbomachinery fluid mechanics and significant practice in the computation of turbomachinery flows in a research setting, direct practice of modelling and simulation of turbulent flows, practice of high-performance computing both from a development and a usage point of view. Candidates holding a significant degree/Masters and is working on PhD/DPhil together with significant practice will be considered at Grade 6 (£29,098 - £35,326 per annum).
