The Global Challenge programme is recruiting a natural scientist/health specialist to lead the Planetary Health pathway of the trans-disciplinary BASc Global Challenge programme.
Global Challenges is a major focus of transdisciplinary study and research area in the university. The Division currently consists of a core undergraduate programme (BASc Global Challenges) with four pathways in Planetary Health, Security, Social Cohesion and Global Innovation. The programme draws upon the skills of multiple staff from every College in the institution to create a trans-disciplinary learning and research practice for students. Students are introduced to and develop knowledge and knowledge of key concepts and frameworks needed to respond to multi-dimensional and systemic challenges faced by the contemporary world and our global community. Students lgain to integrate and respond in theoretical and practical ways to issues that impact systems of community, environment, and the economy at a local, national and international scale.
The Global Challenges degree offers one of the only undergraduate programmes in the UK with a specific pathway in planetary health. The prosperous candidate will have a natural sciences and/or health background and be working closely with colleagues in the College of Health, Medical and Life Sciences as well as the core Global Challenges team to engage students in the study of the intersectional nature of human health and the earth's systems. Ideally you will also have some practice of teaching in one of the more following areas ANOVA, GIS/QGIS, R-programming, Excel and basic statistical methods.
We are pursuing to recruit inter-disciplinary scholars or scholars who have an established track record in this field and have clear ambitions to develop their trans-disciplinary capacity. The appointee would demonstrably be able to broaden our research and teaching in any field that links to the challenges connected with planetary health. The appointment is from 1 September 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter.
The appointee will join the established research and teaching team. They will also be expected to participate in at least one of the research centres and/or hubs in any one of the Colleges or a University Research Institute.
