The Department of Archaeology, Classics & Egyptology is seeking to appoint a permanent Lecturer (Teaching & Research) in Greek Culture (broadly defined) and Classical Receptions. The person appointed will be expected to participate in a broad range of teaching primarily aimed at students taking programmes of study in Ancient History, Classical Studies and Classics. Teaching tasks will be in Greek Culture, ancient languages, and Classical Receptions. As well as participating in taught UG and PGT modules, there will also be UG and PGT dissertation supervision.
In research, you will be a specialist in aspects of Greek Culture and also Classical Receptions (with a preference for 20th and 21st century receptions). The prosperous candidate will be an active researcher, will have a demonstrable track record in publishing in their field, plans for significant future research, the capability and ambition to make applications for substantial research grant funding (which could be interdisciplinary), both as a single researcher and in collaboration with other members of the Department and beyond. Your main responsibilities in teaching will be to collaborate with the Classics and Ancient History group in the Department of Archaeology, Classics and Egyptology. The appointee(s) will be expected to take on administrative functions, and full responsibility for individual modules, preparing and maintaining online module resources, and collaborating with colleagues in the delivery of other modules.
As well as teaching delivery (which will include contributions to first- and second-year modules in Greek History, Greek Mythology, and Rebuilding Troy as well as Greek language and text teaching) and design of a level 3 module, tasks will include module coordination, and dissertation supervision (undergraduate and postgraduate taught) as well as significant administrative functions that underpin undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and enhance the student practice, such as Academic Advisor, in line with Faculty and University strategies. Interested candidates should have the capability to organise, manage and delivery teaching to groups of different sizes.
We welcome applications from individuals looking to develop career practice in the discipline, who will offer high quality teaching to the department's students.
