The function
We are currently seeking a postdoctoral research associate to join our team at the Rosalind Franklin Institute. Within the Davis and Baldwin groups in the Next Generation Chemistry theme, one of the aims is to develop new biophysical methods to study the interactions of significant ligands directly within complex biomolecular environments. Specifically, this project, jointly funded with Bruker, will develop new methods for the observation of ligands significant to pathogen-host interactions and for the interrogation of libraries of ligand mixtures to further dissect such mechanisms [see e.g. bioRxiv 2021.04.14.439284; doi: https://doi.org/10.1101/2021.04.14.439284].
Within this project, you will expand on these discoveries and develop new methods for interrogating emerging targets and pathogens. The post, which is for 2 years, reports to the Franklin's Theme Lead for Chemistry (Ben Davis) and the Head of bioNMR at the Franklin (Andrew Baldwin), as well as key academic and industrial collaborators (including Bruker) and will work alongside other researchers in the Franklin and at partner university institutes including at the University of Oxford (where some groups are jointly located).
About you
Candidates must hold a post-graduate qualification, or equivalent practice, in Chemistry, Biochemistry or Chemical Biology, Biology, Biomolecular Science, or related subjects. this function requires practice in biomolecular NMR or NMR methods, with developing routinely usable methods, as well as practice with project management. We are pursuing candidates with a demonstrated aptitude for protein chemistry and connected methods, while practice in synthetic chemical methodology, in pathogen or pseudovrius methods, as well as expert knowledge of structural methods are desirable.

About us
The Rosalind Franklin Institute (the Franklin) is a new national Research Centre, funded by the UK government through UK Research and Innovation, dedicated to bringing about transformative changes in life science through interdisciplinary research and technology. Our work is focused into five complementary themes, which together will produce technologies which allow us to see the biological world in new ways, from single molecules to entire systems. This insight will speed up drug design and development, and push forward our knowledge of human health and disease.
