Job Description

Reporting to the Academic Dean, the Research Facilitator is involved in creating emerging research infrastructure for a liberal arts Catholic undergraduate university college, affiliated with Western University. Activities of this position support the institution’s Strategic Research Plan and provide key foundational administrative support to the research enterprise. The Research Facilitator offers a high level of customer service in a fast-paced, deadline-driven administrative unit. Operating with the utmost professionalism, the Research Facilitator manages sensitive and confidential information including maintenance of faculty research files.

Pre and Post Award Administration:
   » Provide expert advice and guidance to researchers (all disciplines) in the identification of grant opportunities and providing up-to-date information on funding opportunities, program objectives, policies/guidelines, evaluation criteria, deadlines, application procedures, and the requirements of research funding agencies and the university;
   » Assist faculty members at King’s (in coordination with collaborating researchers and organizations) in developing high quality and nationally competitive grant applications
   » Support institutional signatories in the submission of external research grant applications on funder platforms;
   » Serve as an institutional resource for researchers interested in developing programs of research;
   » contact with Agency/Corporate contacts in developing terms of agreements/contracts/awards or questions relating to policy and procedure;
   » contact with institutional departments (e.g. Research Ethics Board, Physical Resources, Communications, Finance, Development, and Western Research) to ensure compliance with award agreements;
   » Provide support to researchers in ensuring integrity in the conduct of research, including providing expert support and advice for researchers seeking federally required approval from King’s Research Ethics Review Committee. General Administration:
   » Participate in the drafting, development and implementation of institutional policies and procedures for supporting the university research enterprise;
   » Work closely with Western Research on coordinating research policy dissemination, research granting opportunities, and adjunct status applications between King’s University College and Western.
   » Assist in distributing calls for proposals to quota programs and initiatives and provide commentary for the decision makers for the purpose of ranking files, proposals or nominees;
   » Maintain statistical records of research activities and draft and present reports as required
   » Prepare background documentation and assist in writing institutional nominations for research awards and recognitions as required;
   » Assist in the facilitation of workshops and information sessions for the research community; QUALIFICATIONS:

Effective September 7, 2021, all employees and visitors to campus are required to comply with King’s COVID-19 Vaccination Policy.
Required
   » Master’s Degree requiring the completion of a thesis or major research paper.
   » 3 years practice in a research environment or administrative position at an academic institution. Knowledge of the rules, regulations and procedures significant to the conduct of research;
   » practice developing, reviewing, evaluating, editing, and administering research grants, contracts, and award agreements including federal and provincial agencies (Tri-Agencies; Canada Foundation for Innovation; Ontario Research Fund, etc.)
   » Detailed knowledge of Tri-agency funding programs, policies, and guidelines (especially the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council and the Canadian Institutes for Health Research) and the capability to confidently interpret and apply those policies to particular research projects.
   » Exceptional interpersonal and written and verbal communication expertise with the capability to interact productively and professionally with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders;
   » Certified completion of TCPS-CORE online training on Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans – TCPS 2 (2018).
   » capability to critically read and interpret documents related to terms of agreements, financial obligations, legal licapability and risk mitigation;
   » Excellent project and time management expertise with the capability to multi-task, meet deadlines and work well under pressure;
   » Strong numeracy expertise including multi-year budget development, in-kind valuations, and leveraging of funding;
   » Demonstrated capability to manage confidential and sensitive materials;
   » Able to work non-standard schedule at times to deal with deadlines. TYPE OF JOB:

Full Time, 12-month contract – 35 hours per week

EFFECTIVE DATE:

July 25, 2022 (or sooner)

income RANGE:

PSG 14 - $70,677 - $88,497 per annum, dependant upon practice
