We are now looking for a Head of Learning and Teaching (NEXUS) to join our Carmarthen campus on a full time, permanent basis working 37 hours per week.
THE function
We have created an ambitious new Learning and Teaching Enhancement Strategy intended to provide our students with the best possible opportunities to achieve their potential and contribute positively to society. To achieve this, we are also investing in the professional development of our colleagues.
NEXUS Learning and Teaching Framework will provide a focus for the development of creative and effective delivery models, and support the delivery of an inclusive curriculum suited to the needs of our students and their future careers. The Head of Learning and Teaching (NEXUS) will be responsible for embedding the NEXUS Learning and Teaching Framework, working closely with academic and professional staff across the University.
You will provide leadership abilities in relation to the NEXUS Learning and Teaching Framework, including the NEXUS conference, peer support framework, the HEA fellowship programme, and the management of Learning Enhancement and Advancement (LEAP) programme.
You will work closely with the significant PVC and the Director of Academic practice to lead our work to embed academic innovation and professional development across the University in support of an excellent student practice. You will work closely with other professional units, Institutes and the Students' Union in enhancing both curriculum design and enhancement utilising key internal and external data.
You will play a key function in establishing and maintaining the University's reputation and profile nationally (and internationally where appropriate) on issues relating to teaching, learning, assessment and the development of academic policy, and benchmarking where appropriate so that the University can be seen as a leader exemplifying best practice in learning and teaching, sharing it as appropriate and learning from the practice of others.
NEXUS will be a hub, informing and supporting the delivery of effective education policy and practice within Institutes and professional services and will play a pivotal function in disseminating good practice both internally and externally to UWTSD.
In order to ensure maximum efficiency and coverage, the Academic Office adopts a teamwork approach whereby staff are assigned primary areas of responsibility. However, staff may be required to fulfil any other tasks identified by the line manager and commensurate with the scale of the post. All staff will be expected to contribute as required to activities across the University's campuses.

ABOUT YOU
To be considered as a Head of Learning and Teaching (NEXUS), you will need:
   » A postgraduate qualification
   » Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA)
   » Evidence of continuing professional development
   » Proven record of prosperous academic leadership abilities and management including programme development, innovation and management of change in educational policy and practice, with evidence of impact.
   » Demonstrable practice of prioritisation of student focus to achieve student performance and excellent practice.
   » A proven record of innovative and/or inclusive teaching or learning enhancement activities.
   » practice of designing and/or delivering staff development and support strategies.
   » Strong knowledge of the issues and context within which UK higher education operates, including the regulatory framework, benchmarks and comparator data for the HE sector.
   » Highly developed influencing and networking expertise, with the capability to build constructive relationships both within the university and externally.
   » A resilient and positive approach to working with complex organisational structures and cultures to deliver results
   » Excellent leadership abilities, team building and decision making expertise combined with the capability to motivate staff within an ethos of individual and collective responsibility for actions and exemplary service delivery
It would also be beneficial if you have:
   » A doctoral qualification
   » Principal Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (PFHEA)
   » capability to communicate through the medium of Welsh - oral and written
   » practice of leading the development, delivery and evaluation of cross-institutional educational strategy and connected policy.
   » practice of the development and effective implementation of policies, strategies, systems, regulations and guidance in relation to learning and teaching
   » knowledge and capability to manage and control a budget, coupled with an knowledge of financial management, to the requirements of the post.
   » capability to communicate through the medium of Welsh - oral and written
