Fixed Term Contract
Are you looking for an exciting prospect starting as soon as possible for a fixed term period ending Tuesday 1st August 2023?
The University of Buckingham created the UK's first independent, not-for-profit, Medical School in 2015. Our guiding philosophy is to produce highly ethical, honest, and compassionate doctors who will put the patient first. We now have an intake of around 120 students per year on the four-and-a-half-year course. We received our GMC accreditation in May 2019 and our first intake who graduated in June 2019, took up their Foundation Training in August 2019.
function Purpose
This is a chance to develop your teaching skills. Working three or four days per week at The University of Buckingham Medical School, you will facilitate biomedical science and clinical teaching of first- and second-year medical students. These appointments have been developed to support high quality teaching of undergraduate medical students at the University of Buckingham Medical School during the first two University-located years (Phase I). The posts are appropriate for doctors who have completed a minimum of 2 years of general professional training after graduation, and who wish to gain further practice in undergraduate teaching.
The post is designed to provide postgraduate doctors at Core level an opportunity to explore Medical Education as part of their career. This fixed-term post (0.6/0.8FTE,) located at the University, on campus in Buckingham, is aimed at those who wish to build on their personal teaching practice and develop skills in educational theory. The income for a full time equivalent (FTE) is £39,729.08.a, with a good pension scheme. The function leaves time to do clinical work for part of the week.
The job is enjoyable and compensateing. With working hours of 8.30am to 5.30pm, it gives an opportunity to study for exams, develop interests outside medicine or even plan a wedding. The function is very beneficial to your CV, with all previous function-holders attaining a place on the rotation that they subsequently applied for.
The postholder will not be able to join the PG Cert in Medical Education course funded by the University of Buckingham, but, if the post was to be extended for a further 12 months, then the postholder would be eligible for funding for this course.
Skills & practice
Although an enthusiasm for teaching is essential, no formal expertise of educational theory or practice is required. Hands-on teaching will be central to the post.
Your must hold full GMC licence to practice registration and have the Right to Work in the UK. We are unable to offer a certificate of sponsorship route for a visa.
Informal enquiries may be made to Ashanti Scoffin-Thomas on Tel: +44 (0)1280 827565 or at Email Ashanti.thomas@buckingham.ac.uk.
Closing date is 30st September, 2022, however an early application is advised as the advert will be taken down once the function has been filled.
