A Researcher is sought to work on the H2020-SPACE project ATLAS ( A dvanced Design of High En t ropy A l loys located Materi a ls for Space Propul s ion)
The Project
Development of next generation space exploration propulsion systems requires high temperature materials with: Low density; High strength and ductility; Oxidation resistance; Good creep properties.
High Entropy Alloys (HEA) have been identified as possible replacement for superalloys in propulsion systems components due to their potential high specific strength and oxidation resistance at high temperatures. The overall aim of the ATLAS project is to capitalise the practice of the current advancements on HEA materials and structures and develop the necessary key enablers to allow the use of HEA located solution in Space propulsion.
To achieve this goal, ATLAS will adopt a multidisciplinary materials design framework that advances the state-of-the-art of High Entropy Alloys and related materials compounds towards the practical needs (current and future) of the space propulsion industry.
The prosperous applicant must have theoretical and practical expertise of Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME) methods: Finite Element Analysis, computational failure analysis, computational modelling of materials programming languages, practice in writing user defined subroutines applied to advanced materials. practice in Ab-Initio Methods and/or Monte Carlo analysis is particularly sought.
This position has funding for up to December 2023.
