The post holder will be central in coordinating and supporting the University's human tissue research licence and ethics committee approved studies that utilise human tissue. They will provide assurance of compliance with the removal, storage, use, and disposal of human tissues for research purposes together with SU Designated Individual (DI) and persons designate (PD) alongside individual study Principal Investigators (PIs).
The use of human tissue for research is a common practice across Swansea University's Faculties that are located across the Singleton and Bay campuses. The post holder will ensure that all necessary governance requirements are met in respect of the use of human tissue for research in conformity with the Human Tissue Act (2004), other Human Tissue Authority (HTA) regulatory needs, and the requirements of the Health Research Authority (HRA) and Faculty Research Ethics Committees (RECs).
Using specialist expertise, the post holder will provide full advice and guidance to the DI, PDs and PIs in all matters relating to activities covered by the HTA research licence, the HRA, RECs and the university itself to ensure compliance with the terms and conditions of all regulatory and governance needs related to the use of human tissue for research. The Human Tissue Research Compliance agent is a critical function in the delivery of research support, embedded in the University. You should have a significant degree or equivalent qualification and/or practice. Alongside this you should have:
   » In depth working expertise of the significant legislation and regulations connected with the use and retention of human tissues for research purposes
   » expertise of the academic research environment and of the expectations of good conduct that are connected with research activity and good organisational and time management expertise are important with capability to prioritise work and you will need highly developed IT expertise.
