We are currently looking for a Project Manager to join the Cancer avoidance and Early Detection Operations team. The function contributes to the strategic aims and objectives of this team, in order to support, facilitate and add value to PED research across GM. In addition, this function will provide project management of key projects within the ACED portfolio, ensuring delivery to time, budget and quality.


In 2019 Manchester was awarded funding to become a member centre of Cancer Research UK's International Cancer Early Detection Alliance (ACED). The Alliance is a new five year £55m initiative established in 2019 by Cancer Research UK bringing together skills from five world leading universities in the UK (University of Manchester, Cambridge University, University College London and the USA (Stanford and Oregon Health and Science University). Research groups from these organisations will collaborate on a number of research projects of varying scales from small pilot grants to large multi-centre programme grants. The Alliance also runs a series of online events and a PhD's student programme which commenced in late 2021.
There are four key areas that the function will be responsible for leading and contributing to:
   » Manage research projects from set-up through to close-out, supporting the PI to deliver the project objectives
   » Build strong links with Greater Manchester Cancer on behalf of the theme, attending committee meetings such as Early Detection and Diagnosis to ensure that research is appropriately represented. Greater Manchester Cancer fund 50% of this position.
   » As ACED Project Manager, provide support to any awards funded through the alliance and the development of new project proposals, prioritising researchers and ideas as necessary.
   » Contribute to the development of the PED Operations team ensuring that appropriate reporting and project management structures are in place. This involves developing the data repositories, documentation, templates and other resources to ensure rapid response to project support requests as required
The position will involve close working with a wide variety of academic, clinical, managerial and administrative staff all over The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, CRUK Manchester Institute and Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health (FBMH), University of Manchester.
This position is funded by CRUK through the International Alliance of Cancer Early Detection.
About You:
You must have practice in biomedical / clinical research and will have an undergraduate and/or master's degree in a significant discipline such as biological / biomedical sciences (or equivalent significant practice).
Key qualities should include demonstrated project management skills managing clinical / research projects to time, quality and budget. practice of conducting project reporting and evaluating outputs, capability to work in a team and good communication skills, all of which are needed to efficiently work in a multidisciplinary team.
