The prosperous candidates will be located in the £11 million state-of-the-art Veterinary Pathology Centre in Guildford.
Residents will receive a comprehensive, in-depth educational practice in all aspects of veterinary and comparative anatomic pathology. This will include the necessary training practice and access to training materials that are required to sit for the Phase I and Phase II certifying examinations of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP).
Training will be case located, using diagnostic submissions received by the Veterinary Pathology Centre that comprise a varied species range that includes companion animals (dogs, cats, horses), livestock, camelids, wildlife, and zoo and exotic species. Structured training sessions will complement the practical diagnostic practice and will include weekly rounds sessions focused on gross pathology, histopathology (including surgical biopsy cases and the Joint Pathology Center's Wednesday Slide Conference), and journal clubs. Other subspeciality rounds will focus on areas such as comparative laboratory animal pathology and zoo, exotic and wildlife animal pathology.
Residents will also undertake research projects, prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals, and submit abstracts for poster and oral presentations at university, national, and international meetings. They will also participate in veterinary student teaching in didactic and clinical settings. Residents will be encouraged to engage in collaborative research projects with researchers inside or outside the University. Occasional opportunities to complete externships outside of the University will also exist.
