The Electronics Technical Specialist function is a key position within the School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Nottingham and represents an exciting opportunity to help support our experimental research and teaching activities.
The purpose of the function will be to design, manufacture and repair bespoke, high quality electronic and electrical equipment and to provide specialist technical support and advice to researchers, academic and teaching staff within the School.
We have a broad research portfolio encompassing Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Condensed Matter Physics, Cold Atomic Physics, Particle Theory and Astronomy and are also one of the largest departments in the UK with over 600 undergraduate students. Our complex and challenging research relies on novel and innovative technical solutions delivered by highly skilled and practiced staff with specialist significant training.
You will have specific skills in high-accuracy, low-noise analogue, digital and mixed signal circuits and practice with embedded systems. This will include circuit design, simulation, PCB layout, fabrication, assembly and some code development. You will use your specialist technical expertise to conceptualise and interpret the operational requirements of research groups and develop these into effective working solutions, which will often be novel and unique to a particular research challenge. You must be able to adapt to changing requirements as research projects progress.
