Job Opportunity: Bacteriologist, Specialist in Antimicrobial Resistance:Job description:Job location: Weybridge Grade: Higher Scientific agent Starting income: £32,557 The Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) is an Executive Agency of the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs, and works on behalf of the Scottish Government and Welsh Government. The Department of Bacteriology are looking for an enthusiastic scientist with skills in bacteriology and molecular biology, specialising in antimicrobial resistance (AMR). They will manage the day to day running of a laboratory conducting surveillance and research into AMR in bacteria occurring in livestock. The scientist will be part of a small team & will manage and deliver research and surveillance work on AMR, primarily in those bacteria occurring in livestock. Responsibilities will include areas such as surveillance of AMR in bacteria in healthy animals at slaughter and AMR in bacteria present on meat, in addition to characterisation of resistances identified, and outbreak investigations. We are seeking for candidates with a degree in microbiology or other bioscience area significant to post. candidates with a MSc in Microbiology with a proven track record will be considered A full job specification and function requirements can be found on our website. Other Information The Weybridge site is a strategically important national asset due to its function as a reference laboratory supporting the Government's response to national emergencies including disease outbreaks. For this reason all post holders located on the APHA Weybridge site must hold a valid Counter Terrorist Check (CTC) security clearance or above. It is up to each person applying for a post at APHA Weybridge to ensure they meet the CTC residency criteria. candidates must be currently resident in the UK & have between 3 to 10 years continuous UK residency depending on the level of security required.
