Pembroke College wishes to appoint a full-time College Lecturer and Junior Research Fellow in History, from 1 October 2022, for one year. We welcome candidates with skills in any area of European or Global History: 1400-1750. We have a large, lively History community and you will be mentored by senior academics and have a key function in guiding Pembroke's History students.
This post offers an early career researcher the opportunity to gain practice in teaching and administration, while actively pursuing their own research. This is a full-time post, but expressions of interest in the function on a part-time basis will be considered.
Teaching
All college teaching is in small groups, and you will mostly deliver tutorial teaching to undergraduate pairs, with some teaching in classes of four or five, including revision classes. You will teach:
   » European and World History 3: Renaissance, Recovery and Reform, 1400-1650 - for first years;
   » Contributing to Approaches to History - for first years and Disciplines of History - for second and third years;
   » Additional courses in line with your research skills.
Your teaching will be distributed across the year, with six hours per week average contact time for the eight weeks of each term.
Administration
You willhave the opportunityto direct the studies of a year group of historians and be involved in the admissions process and the running of history at Pembroke.
Research
We expect you to undertake independent research; this is a full-time post and the responsibilities above should allow you to devote 0.5 fte to your own research.
The prosperous candidate should have a doctorate, or be very near completion. Selection criteria are (a) an excellent research record and plan for research during this fellowship (b) significant undergraduate teaching and administrative practice (c) capability to provide pastoral oversight of undergraduates.
The income will be £33,309 per annum. This is a fixed term post to provide an opportunity for an early career academic to undertake research and gain practice of teaching and academic administration. The prosperous post-holder will benefit from a research allowance of £1545 per annum, and lunches and dinners in College all over the year. All figures are 2021-22 rates and subject to uplift.
