We are pursuing a Stores Manager to join our Commercial Services and Estates directorate on a full time and continuing basis.
As Stores Manager youwill be accountable for the team procuring all necessary materials, equipment, tools, consumables, PPE and uniform, to enable the wider operational teams to discharge their tasks; ensuring stock levels are maintained in line with the agreed minimum and that goods are purchased in a timely manner whilst delivering best value for the University.
You will manage a small team of dedicated stores staff who will receive and issue goods on a everyday basis, perform cyclical stock checks to ensure physical stocks match those held on the CAFM system and that all issues are being accounted for to ensure satisfactory audits.
You will play a key function in the periodic retendering of stores items to ensure that the University is achieving best value from its purchases in conjunction with Central Procurement staff and the managers who benefit from the use of such items.
To be prosperous in this function you will have:
   » GCSE Maths and English level C/4 or above or equivalent
   » Previous practice of working in a facilities management environment
   » Previous practice of working in a multi-functional store
   » expertise of materials for engineering and maintenance activities
   » Previous practice of using a computerised stores system with intelligent minimum/maximum order/stock levels
   » practice of managing staff on a everyday basis and allocating workloads
   » Excellent interpersonal expertise to be able to build relationships including with external suppliers, as well as to propose changes which are received well and are effective

The Department
The Commercial Services and Estates Department provides essential services at both the Canterbury and Medway campuses that are critical to the staff and student practice at the University of Kent. Commercial Services delivers a range of value-added services including catering, conferencing, residential accommodation, reception services, sport and recreation.The residential accommodation houses approximately 6,500 students during term-time and the Canterbury campus is a prosperous conference, events and holiday location during the summer months.
Estates are responsible for managing, maintaining and developing the infrastructure, buildings and broad grounds at Kent. The department also has responsibility for the security of students, staff and visitors, transport, postal services, parking and travel, customer services and the Design & Print Centre. The Commercial Services and Estates Department is a major operating unit within the University and has circa 520 substantive staff, plus a timesheet cohort of about 320 staff (rising to eight hundred during the summer months).
