Join us to lead and develop our strategic approach to support and enhance research capacity in biomedical and health research at an exciting time when UKRI has a key function in delivering the UK Government's strategy to grow capacity within the STEM subject space. You will be working with a wide variety of collaborators at a senior level to shape this initiative at a national level. This is a unique opportunity to be involved in developing something new and impactful.
About UKRI Talent and expertise
In May 2022, UKRI announced a transition to working in a collective manner across our £2b of talent initiatives covering studentships and fellowships to help us deliver the ambition set out in the UKRI Strategy and Councils' Strategic Delivery Plans. One of the aims of working collectively is that it will allow us to better attract, develop and retain talented people and teams across all career stages and in an inclusive manner. It will also help us to reduce the bureaucracy involved in accessing and managing funding and make UKRI's talent offers more consistent and easier to understand.
About the function
You will have responsibility for and lead delivery of MRC's activity relating to research talent, expertise and careers, spanning both its implementation and communication, reporting to the MRC's Chief Science agent. This will include providing strategic input and, where required, leadership abilities for the development of UKRI's wider ambition for collective working in talent, with a particular focus on clinical and multidisciplinary training relating to biomedical and health research (UK and global), including with industry. Also actively promoting MRC/UKRI's strategic approach to building research capacity and expertise development.
There will be some regular travel to our Swindon and London offices in line with business needs. You will have line management responsibilities for 5 senior posts within a team of 15.
What we offer
UKRI recognises and values employees as individuals and therefore provides a flexible working scheme, a Career Average Revalued Earnings pension scheme, 30 days annual leave allowance plus 10.5 public holidays and many other benefits.
You will need:
» A PhD (significant to the work of the MRC), or equivalent higher degree in research
» Significant practice working in health research management and familiarity with UK medical or biological research in Universities and the NHS
» practice in developing and managing strong partnerships and relationships inside and outside the organisation, managing conflicts, and building consensus to deliver key objectives
» The capability to manage and lead a team and work effectively across internal & external organisational structures
How to apply
candidates are required to provide a CV and include a cover letter providing evidence of how they meet the criteria described.
To apply, and for further details on the function, please visit our job board via the ' Apply ' button above.
The closing date for applications is 5th October 2023.
