Summary of the function
The post of Lecturer in Marine Biology will be to support the delivery of modules and supervision of student research projects in the field of Marine Biology, particularly Marine Ecology and Conservation. The post will include preparation and delivery of lectures, discussions, tutorials and practical classes; also the supervision of undergraduate and MSc research projects. This position is within the Centre for Ecology and Conservation, at the Penryn (Cornwall) campus of the University of Exeter.
The Centre for Ecology and Conservation comprises 70 permanent faculty, research groups, and >1000 taught students, located on our Cornwall Campus. Our Research and Education span Ecology & Conservation, Behaviour, Evolution, Marine Biology and Microbes. We have global top-ten status for Ecology (AWRU 2022), and are third in the UK for the quality of our Zoology education (Guardian GUG 2022). About you
For a Lecturer post you will:
   » Possess sufficient breadth or depth of specialist and core expertise in the discipline, demonstrated by a PhD (or nearing completion) or equivalent in Marine Biology to develop teaching programmes, and teach and support learning;
   » Use a range of delivery techniques to enthuse and engage students;
   » Participate in and develop external networks, for example, to contribute to student recruitment, secure student placements, facilitate outreach work, generate income, obtain consultancy projects, or build relationships for future activities;
   » Have evidence of excellent teaching identified by peer review and have made an impact at discipline programme level beyond their own teaching;
   » Be expected to work towards Fellow of the HEA status and to attend formal CPD relating to this.
