tasks of the function
Essex Law School is recruiting a lecturer to join our English and French Laws Double Degree team of five enthusiastic and supportive academics. The prosperous candidate will have subject skills in French law (particularly in French private law) and will contribute to teaching on the English and French laws Double Degree and undertake other tasks such as organising extra-curricular activities and students' recruitment. An capability to contribute to other areas of the undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum in English language is desirable. The appointee will demonstrate a commitment to providing an engaging, innovative curriculum that meets the modern needs of our student body.
The candidate will undertake excellent teaching, delivering specific teaching skills in the areas of French law, particularly French private law, contribute to other areas of the undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum, and contribute to the academic community within the Essex Law School.
This appointment is for a fixed-term of 1 September 2024 - 30 June 2025 in order to provide cover for a permanent member of staff who is absent from work on maternity leave. You should note that should the permanent member of staff choose to return to her post earlier than the end date of this contract then a notice period of 1 month, instead of 3 months, shall apply to the ending of this appointment.
Skills and qualifications required
candidates will preferably have a postgraduate degree in French law. They will have demonstrable capability to teach French private law modules in French language and to assess and mark formative and summative work in French private law and public law modules. They will be able to teach in the undergraduate curriculum and engage in teaching and learning support in engaging and innovative ways. candidates will be able to undertake and participate in students' recruitment for the English and French Laws Double Degree and facilitate and participate in extracurricular activities organised by and for students on the programme.
