This is a fixed term appointment until 30 November 2026 and is part time (c. 4-6 days a month - although the Institute is prepared to consider other arrangements for the right candidate)
The Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment is establishing a new specialist sub-centre focused on leveraging, strengthening and amplifying research. The Centre for Economic Transition skills will develop well-targeted policy analysis and outputs by convening policymakers and by providing technical support, assistance, and capacity-building. We seek to appoint an established or emerging leader in a field related to the centre's activities, such as monetary and financial markets and economic and fiscal policy, to lead the centre as the new Chair, who will champion the reforms necessary to deliver sustainable, inclusive, and resilient economies and financial systems across Europe.
The Chair will provide strategic vision and leadership abilities to the centre and act as its public ?face' by leading its engagement and communication strategy. They will develop a strong and cohesive senior leadership abilities team and supervise the centre's governance, by leading the relationship with the Advisory Board. As the centre's principal ambassador and advocate, the Chair will ensure that its work is at forefront of global debates and problem-solving the major political and economic issues of our time and enhance its reputation for international research, academic excellence, and public engagement.
Candidates should have international stature, located on a significant track record as a leader of policy development and practice, and demonstrable strength of purpose and vision with a track record of devising and delivering innovation, transformation, and change in a complex environment and through prosperous consensus-building. They will have the capability to attract and recruit top talent, motivate the team, and delegate effectively, as well as a strong commitment to fund-raising and an knowledge of what this means in practice. They will have evidence of being self-reflective and aware of his/her own limitations, leading by example and driving the organisation's performance with an attitude of continuous improvement by being open to feedback and self-improvement. Candidates will have the capability to work across Europe and with an knowledge of significant policy/political developments across the EU/UK.
