About Us


The mission of Brain and Mind at Western is to provide a centralized and visible presence for cognitive neuroscience at Western University. The Institute's primary functions are to promote research, to facilitate the training of highly qualified personnel, and to foster national and international collaborations in cognitive neuroscience.
The Numerical Cognition Laboratory is a research group that is housed in the Western Interdisciplinary Research Building on Western’s campus. Members of the Numerical Cognition laboratory investigate the development of numerical and mathematical expertise in children using a diversity of methods including behavioral research, surveys and functional neuroimaging. 

Responsibilities


The Research adjunct will support research and related administrative activities for the research project under the direction of a principal investigator.  The Research adjunct will assist researchers, staff, students and other members of the research team with a variety of day-to-day research tasks to support and to facilitate the achievement of innovative research results. The Research adjunct will assist with compiling and analyzing research results, and will support expertise translation and dissemination.  The Research adjunct will also support the development and implementation of future research projects. 

Qualifications


suitable education
   » 3 year university undergraduate degree in Psychology, Neuroscience or Education
   » 4 year honor’s degree in Psychology, Neuroscience or Education preferred 
practice:
   » 1 year practice supporting research implementation and related administrative activities
   » Previous practice working with children and young people is preferred
expertise, expertise & Abilities:
   » Familiarity with regulations and guidelines governing research ethics in an academic environment
   » Familiarity with techniques for updating, managing and extracting data from a research database
   » capability to collaborate and develop credible relationships with a wide variety of individuals, internal and external to Western
   » Communication expertise to describe technical concepts effectively to both novice and sophisticated users
   » capability to write clear, concise and accurate procedural documentation
   » capability to work in a manner that models best practices in confidentiality standards
   » capability and availability to employ a consultative and collaborative approach to covering issues and making decisions
   » Detail-oriented with an capability to function and process information with high levels of accuracy
   » capability and availability to stay abreast of technological developments
   » Intermediate computer expertise in Microsoft Office Suite
   » Intermediate expertise in software and applications used to produce and analyze research results
   » Demonstrated capability take initiative, to work independently and follow through on work assignments
   » capability to prioritize and organize a fluctuating work load
   » capability to investigate defined issues, solicit input, and suggest remedies and alternative approaches that meet the needs of the situation
   » capability to interact professionally with students, staff, faculty, and other members of the University community
   » capability to interpret and identify key results from research and to succinctly summarize research findings
   » capability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals
   » Demonstrated working expertise of significant scientific/research principles
   » Familiarity with University policies and procedures related to research preferred
