Offer: Research Fellow (NWICB/UEA Fellow):

Job description:

Job location: Norwich
income: From £45,737 per annum (pro rata) with an annual increment up to £52,841 per annum (pro rata)
Hours: Part Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract

Published in: 17th April 2024
Closing date: 3rd May 2024
Reference: RA2212

Up to 0.6FTE, fixed term for 24 months

Applications are invited for a Research Fellow (NWICB/UEA Fellow) from individuals with a strong academic record wanting to develop a career in primary care/community care/social care/public health research.
The primary goal is for the Fellow to write an NIHR grant application to secure future funding. This exciting opportunity will give the prosperous candidate time and support to conduct work to support their application and a platform to develop as an independent researcher.
You will have a significant postgraduate research degree, have submitted a PhD/MDbefore 1 April 2024, and have a letter of support from your manager that you are unlikely to have no more than minor corrections after viva,or have equivalent practice;and have practice of research in primary care/community care/social care/public health or closely related field of medicine. You must be looking to secure your first substantial research grant as chief investigator (or Co-CI).
The Fellowship is open to anyone who has not yet secured a lectureship/permanent academic position and is a maximum 7 years post PhD or has not held a grant as chief investigator of more than £100,000. It is open to all disciplines significant to primary care/community care/social care/public health research (clinical or non-clinical); work aligned to a published healthcare system priority area is preferred.
Fellowship awards may involve conducting specific work (e.g. literature review) to support the NIHR grant application and/or to develop stakeholder networks to inform grant design. You will be attached to a research group involved in a programme of research and need to have identified an academic mentor at UEA who is willing to support you all over the fellowship prior to interview. Please name your academic mentor in your cover letter and this will be confirmed with them prior to interview.
We are particularly interested in applications where stakeholder involvement from our local communities is a key part of the proposal. Funds must be used in line with the RCF principles (seehere), cannot be used to undertake research, but only to facilitate NIHR grant application development. NWICB will consider requests for support for small amounts of additional funding on an ad hoc basis, for example for PPIE or stakeholder time or travel during grant application development.
You need to demonstrate outstanding potential to prosperously apply for an externally funded research grant, e.g. good publication record, involvement in grant applications, prizes/awards, other evidence of high academic potential.
Although the Fellow will be employed by and located at UEA, this is a collaborative venture between NHS Norfolk and Waveney and UEA. Remuneration will be aligned with a Research Fellow (grade 8) at UEA. We recognise that many researchers hold other commitments and any %FTE up to 0.6FTE will be considered. However, the goal of submission of an NIHR grant within 12 months remains the same regardless of %FTE.The post is available from 10 June 2024 for a fixed term period of 24 months and may be subject to a criminal record check at Enhanced level from the Disclosure and Barring Service.
