About us
UCL's Department of Computer Science (CS) is a top-ranked Computer Science Department in the UK. In the 2021 Research Excellence Framework (REF) evaluation, UCL Computer Science was ranked second in the UK for research power and first in England.
About the function
The project is run by the UCL AI Centre which, in addition to a strong technical research focus, supports AI policy development. The prime responsibility of the post holder will be to research AI policy and regulation in the UK and place this in a global context, reporting these results on a frequent basis and helping organise meetings and workshops with key stakeholders.

Please note that appointed at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at Research adjunct Grade 6B Spine point 25 (income £37,332- £ 39,980 per annum) inclusive of London Allowance) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis.

The function is 0.4FTE. This post will be funded until 28/02/2026 in the first instance.
About you
The candidate will have a degree and an academic background in AI for policy and regulation, with a demonstrable interest in knowledge UK and international AI policy and regulation. The candidate will have excellent English spoken and written communication expertise.
