The Safety Office is part of the Health, Safety & Regulated Facilities Division and our mission is to assist all sectors of the University in managing health and safety, by delivering professional services in support of teaching and research.
The Safety Office is now seeking to appoint an practiced Radiation Protection Adviser. The prosperous candidate will join the dedicated team providing radiation protection services to the university. Our ethos is to be responsive and sympathetic to the needs of university research whilst enabling high standards of safety and compliance. Working closely with other members of the radiation protection team and engaging with staff all over the university, you will be supporting vital research and education.
About the function:
Reporting to the Head of Radiation Protection, the function provides practical radiation protection services including auditing, training and expert advice to departmental staff, students and committees on radiation protection. Radiation applications are wide ranging, from standard biological tracers, x-ray analysis, veterinary diagnosis and treatment, through to complex and innovative applications vital to medical research. The friendly and supportive team is led by an practiced RPA, RWA and LPA, providing excellent opportunities for developing expertise and practice across all areas of radiation protection.
About you:
As the ideal candidate for this function, you will join us with:
   » RPA, RWA and/or LPA accreditation (RPA2000)
   » practice of providing advice to management and staff, with demonstrable expertise of the significant legislation, international standards and good practice preferably in the research sector
   » Excellent written and verbal communication expertise in communicating specialist information (e.g. delivering specialist training)
   » Excellent organisational expertise
   » Self-motivation and capability to work both independently and as part of a team.
