Fixed term appointment for 24 months
We are seeking for a Research Associate to work on developing a high-power, short-pulse laser system that can be used for creating a source appropriate for studying plasma acceleration techniques. You will also be responsible for developing diagnostics that can be used for experiments. You will be expected to support the work of other members of the group including research students and help with the administration of the research group.
The work typically would involve a high degree of teamwork and interdisciplinary research. You will be expected to help produce independent and original research and submit publications to refereed journals. It is expected that the post holder will use the position to develop their track record and research independence.
Essential Requirements
You must meet the following criteria:
   » A PhD or equivalent level of professional qualifications and/or practice in the field of high-power laser development.
   » Research practice in the building and use of short-pulse high-power laser systems at or above the terawatt level.
   » Background in lasers, optics and photonics.
   » practice in high-power laser physics and laser-matter interactions.
   » Research practice of laser diagnostic techniques.
   » expertise of modelling of laser systems.
   » expertise of safe working practices in laboratories.

*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research adjunct within the income range £40,694 - £43,888 per annum.
