About the function

Our widening participation activity builds on the core principles that have been in place since the foundation of UCL in 1826, when it was the first university in England to admit students of any religion an d regardless of background. UCL aims to recruit the brightest and best students, regardless of their background. UCL Computer Science offers various outreach programmes aimed at engaging with schools and students to raise aspirations, supporting journeys into higher education, and promoting interest in computer science. Some of our programmes include: • Apply Competitively into STEM (A-COMPS) • Computer Science Module with organisation Thinking Black • Annual Rae Harbird Day • School visits • In2STEM summer programme The Widening Participation agent will be responsible for coordinating and delivering events and information, advice and guidance for prospective students, and will lead on the coordination and delivery of allocated programmes and events as directed by the Academic Outreach Lead. The postholder will also assist in the development of new programmes and activities to support the department's strategy of cohort diversification. About you The post holder is responsible for assisting the Widening Participation Academic Lead with the delivery of our Apply Competitively into STEM (A-COMPS) and other widening participation programmes. The postholder will also assist in the development of new programmes and activities to support the department's strategy of cohort diversification. The prosperous candidate will have: • A background in working with young people, developing educational activities and materials • practice in event management, including online events • Excellent communication expertise (written and spoken), including the capability to deal pleasantly and effectively with a wide variety of people in a teaching and learning context is essential, as is excellent interpersonal expertise and the capability to develop effective relationships with staff, schools and partners. • Excellent planning, organisational and decision-making expertise
