Harper Adams University is looking to recruit Reader in Environmental Assessment of Food Systems. This appointment represents an exciting new development by the University to expand and strengthen our sustainable food systems research and spearhead the university's developing research agenda in the field of food systems and nutritional LCA, supporting the development of globally sustainable food chains focusing on a reduction of emissions (scope 1, 2 and 3), reducing waste, global markets (trade development), land use and healthy diets. Academics from food science, agriculture, nutrition, engineering, and agribusiness teams within the university are currently developing themes linked to Harper Adams' 5-year research plan. This appointment will form the natural focus for development of multi-disciplinary research around the sustainable food agenda articulated by the UN Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG) which already underpin our taught curriculum.
The post holder will be expected to nurture colleagues from food science, Agri-business and land use disciplines and grow the research output in the area of nLCA and environmental assessment of food systems whilst focusing on the wider university sustaincapability agenda. Working within the Food Land and Agribusiness Management (FLAM) Department, your brief will be to grow the global impact of the department and create a closer alignment between our food and environmental impact located on its nutritional value for human and planetary health, developing insights for dissemination through the School of Sustainable Food and Farming (SSFF) and linking our university's research to the UN goals of zero hunger, good health and wellbeing and responsible consumption and production
This is a career-enhancing appointment which will take central ground in the research group focusing on Food Systems and Life Cycle Assessment and is an exciting opportunity for a highly qualified and focused academic who will be given the academic freedom to develop their own research group. The post requires dedication and commitment to the highest academic principles and offers a real opportunity in a highly important subject area.
appropriate candidates will have a good first degree and a higher degree in Food science or related area with a track record appropriate for the position of Reader in Environmental Assessment and nutritional Life Cycle Assessment. Candidates should have a strong profile within the Life Cycle Assessment community. The postholder will also be expected to generate research funding to support their activities in collaboration with other academic leads across the institution, stakeholders of Harper Adams University and other approved partners.
