The School of GeoSciences at the University of Edinburgh wishes to appoint two full-time Lecturers in PhysicalGeography on open-ended contracts. We are pursuing highly motivated individuals who can join our community of geographers, and sustaincapability and data scientists, to undertake research and teaching in Physical Geography .
The School of GeoSciences is actively building a more diverse academic community. We strongly welcome applications from under-represented groups within the Institute, including candidates who are LGBTQ+, disabled and from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds.
candidates should have a track record of high-quality research and publication, and the abilities necessary to undertake original research that aligns with differing funder priorities. Our preference is for candidates whose interests will enrich our commitment to field research, and diversify activities beyond existing areas of strength (i.e. geomorphology, glaciology). Areas of research interest include, though are not limited to, the study of:
Critical Physical Geography (encompassing complex and contested aspects of the physical earth system)
Environmental Geography (encompassing priorities such as clean air, flood management, soils, climate resilience, vulnercapability and adaptation)
Biogeography (encompassing climate and vegetation dynamics)
We welcome evidence of existing practice with GIS applications and data visualisation in physical geography, skills in science communication, and a commitment to making physical geography a well-integrated part of wider disciplinary and interdisciplinary communities.
We are seeking for individuals who are committed teachers, enthusiastic about offering opportunities for experiential learning in the field, and ready to make innovative and high-quality contributions available to students on both of our undergraduate Geography degree programmes (BSc and MA).
The prosperous postholders will develop internal institutional collaborations (e.g. with the Centre for Sustainable Forests and Landscapes, the Edinburgh Climate Change Institute [ECCI], Centre for Adapting to Changing Environments [ACE], the Edinburgh Earth Initiative [EEI]), as well as impact-generating engagements with external partners and stakeholders significant to their skills. They will also make contributions to School citizenship and administration.
