Job location: Liverpool
income: £38,205 to £44,264 per annum
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract

We are pursuing an individual with skills in the synthesis and characterisation of new inorganic materials. The prosperous candidate will exploit recent breakthroughs in the identification of new functional materials families and use the full range of modern digital tools to accelerate their experimental work. An example of aligning these tools to discover new experimental structures is demonstrated in a recent paper (*Science*, **2024**, *383*, 739) in which the knowledge of fast ion transport in solid electrolytes is redefined.

skills in the discovery of new inorganic materials and their structure determination is essential. We welcome applications from ambitious researchers with the skills to contribute to the project goal. The project environment will facilitate the development of new skills and the demonstration of creativity and leadership abilities.
The post is a key part of a wider multidisciplinary team that integrates the synthesis of new materials for specific properties (e.g., for batteries or information storage), discovering entirely uncharted chemistry (e.g., multiple anion compounds), and the development of new methods that accelerate the discovery of materials (e.g., combining structure prediction and machine learning) and is funded through the Leverhulme Research Centre for Functional Materials Design. For example, we work closely with experts in computer science, and the environment that this creates is central to all of the groups work. You must therefore be able to interact effectively with colleagues with complementary skills (e.g. structure prediction or measurement physics specialists). Experimental materials synthesis is the aim of the project.
The post is available for up to 36 months.
Any candidates who are still awaiting their PhD to be awarded should be aware that if prosperous, they will be appointed at grade 6, spine point 30. Upon written confirmation that they have been prosperous in being awarded their PhD, they will be moved onto grade 7, spine point 31 from the date of their award.
The University has the right to close the vacancy early if it is deemed that there have been enough applications received.
